Overview:

The main purpose of this document is to help the end user understand the objective, flow and outcome of the standard notebook that has been created to analyze the impact of new brands/products in the inventory. Currently the notebook that has been created for this purpose focusses answering the following questions:

1. What has been the impact of newly launched products on the overall topline sales?

  1. Total sales distribution of different brands before the new brands launch.
  2. Change in the total sales distribution after new brands launch
  3. Total sales contribution of each new brand

2. How many new enrollments are taking place because of the new products?

  1. New enrollments into each brand after launch and the % contribution to the total base.
  2. One Timer and repeater % count for the brands

3. Are we seeing any movement of customers from existing products to the newly launched ones?

  1. Do we have any cannibalization happening ( movement of customers from existing brands to new brands) ?
  2. Need to understand cannibalization at brand level and also category level.
  3. From  the discontinued brands what is the shift of the customer base

Notebook Flow and understanding of the output

The notebook has been divided into two parts. For getting the numbers related to the impact of newly launched brands on the overall sales and new enrollments via new products, user need to refer the following link:

Input fields and output for part 1

1. Org id:

  1. Enter the org_id of the brand for which analysis needs to be done.


2. Product DB:

  1. Enter the name of the database in which inventory table is present.


3. Inventory Table Name:

  1. Enter the name of the inventory table that has product data.



4. Product Code:

  1. Enter the column that captures EAN code in the product master table.
  2. Please note that this column must have same entries that are present in item_code column of bill_lineitems table.


5. Brand Column:

  1. Enter the name of the product column at the level of which analysis needs to be done.
  2. For eg: Product Category, Brand etc.


6. New Brand/Products List:

  1. Enter the list of the newly launched products separated by commas.
  2. Format of entering values: New Product 1,New Product 2 etc.

Month on Month Sales comparison (Old v/s New Products)


The output of the command 11 of the notebook has the overall sales distribution of new and existing products. Users can get the percentage as well as the absolute values that new brands have contributed to the overall sales from this output.

The output of command 16 of the notebook has the % contribution of all the new products that have been introduced. Please note, the percentage values are taken out of the overall sales number of the new products which is displayed in command 11.

The output of command 21 can be downloaded and converted into the below format using pivot tables in excel easily:

Using the above view, user can easily interpret which all new products have brought in how many new enrollments as a percentage of the overall new enrollments with the brand in a given month. P.S. None refers to all the existing brands/products combined and “Combo” refers to the cases where customers have bought multiple new products on their enrollment visit.

Input fields and output for part 2

1. Org id:

  1. Enter the org_id of the brand for which analysis needs to be done.


2. Product DB:

  1. Enter the name of the database in which inventory table is present.


3. Inventory Table Name:

  1. Enter the name of the inventory table that has product data.


4. Product Code:

  1. Enter the column that captures ean code in the product master table.
  2. Please note that this column must have same entries that are present in item_code column of bill_lineitems table.


5. New Brand/Product Name :

  1. Enter the name of any new product which has been launched. 
  2. Please enter only one new product/ brand at a time.


6. Launch Date:

  1. Enter the date on which the respective new product/brand was launched.


7. Movement From Field:

  1. Enter the name of the column from which the user wants to understand the movement of customers to the new brand/product.
  2. It can be the column that captures the information of the new brand or can be any other higher hierarchy level inventory column


Understanding the Output

The output of command 7 of the notebook has the movement of customers from the category which was entered in the Movement_from_field to the newly launched product. In the below table, the row labels represent the categories customers were buying before the launch of new product and the column labels represent how many times did the customers buy the newly launched product after its launch.
